Iconic motorcycles spanning more than 120 years in production will be available to purchase in an upcoming auction at the Haynes Motor Museum on March 13.

Taking place from 11am, the event known as the ‘Classic & Vintage Motorcycle Auction’ will offer more than 150 bikes and is being run by Charterhouse Auctioneers & Valuers. Bids will be available both in person and online on the day.

“The market for motorcycles remains strong and we have bikes entered into the auction from across England,” Head of classic bikes at Charterhouse, George Beale said. “We have been at Haynes for several years now and whilst there is plenty of live internet bidding, we always have a great turnout there for the auction.”

A wide variety of four- and two-stroke motorcycles and trikes are up for grabs, with a 1988 Honda VFR750R RC30 expected to go for the highest figure on the day.

Estimated to reach £30,000 – £35,000, it’s covered just 3565 miles and comes with a V5C and some history. Said to be in good condition, it was first registered in the UK in 2007, with the engine last started in November 2024.

Away from exotic Japanese superbikes of the 80s, the auction day will also welcome one of the earliest forms of motorcycling – with a motorised bicycle produced in around the year 1900 by the British Motor Traction Company in Coventry also going under the gavel.

“Whilst it is amazing to think this bike has been hidden away for all these decades, it is perhaps staggering to think this bike will be 125 years old in 2025,” Beale continued.

The bike itself has been on loan with the Science Museum in London since 1933, with Charterhouse instructed to collect it in 2024. It’s expected to sell for between £10,000 and £15,000.

Other motorcycles of note also include a six-cylinder Honda CBX1000, and a first-generation Honda GL1000 Gold Wing from 1976. First launched a year earlier, the Gold Wing family celebrated its 50th anniversary for 2025, with minor updates to the latest GL1800 models.
