Spanish racetrack Circuito de Jerez hit by flooding after period of heavy rain and hail

Spanish racetrack, Circuito de Jerez has been damaged by flood water after heavy rain battered parts of the Andalusia region on the afternoon of Monday, March 3.

The 2.75-mile circuit, which plays host to both the MotoGP and World Superbike championships later this year, was the location for international launch of Yamaha’s three-cylinder R9 sportsbike when the heavy rain arrived.

Water flowing over the Jerez race track

Chief Road Tester, Michael Neeves was on location when the bad weather hit, saying: “The water has knocked over the tyre walls, dragged the gravel traps into the track, the garages have flooded, and a lot of the mechanics’ tools and photographer’s camera equipment has been flooded yesterday.”

The iconic track is set to host the final round of the 2025 WSBK championship on October 17-19, as well as the fifth round of the MotoGP world championship on April 25-27.

Workers attempt to manage the flood water

According to Michael, the rain is said to have arrived at around 3pm on the Monday afternoon, before turning into hail, and then getting heavier.

This is not the first Spanish circuit to be impacted by flooding in recent times. Circuit Ricardo Tormo (Valencia) was hit by heavy rain in late October 2024 – causing the final round of the MotoGP season to be relocated to Barcelona.
