BMW to supply Isle of Man TT travelling marshals with S1000RR superbikes in new three-year deal

BMW have announced a new three-year deal with the Isle of Man TT races, supplying four-cylinder S1000RR superbikes to the event’s travelling marshals for at least the next three years.

The deal sees the German brand take over from Honda, who have previously supplied the volunteer riders with CBR1000RR-R Fireblades. The travelling marshals specialise in incident management, sometimes on the live 37.73-mile road racing course – meaning a fast bike is essential for their work.

BMW will also supply vehicles for TT officials and medics on both two- and four-wheels.

“The TT’s experienced officials, travelling marshals, and medical response teams are integral to putting on one of the greatest spectacles in motorsport,” UK Head of Marketing and PR at BMW Motorrad Scott Grimsdall said.

“Deploying safely and efficiently is a crucial part of their roles, and we are delighted to partner with the Isle of Man TT Races and provide them with a range of BMW machinery packed with class-leading technology to ensure they are able to do so.”

On top of the fleet of S1000RRs, two M1000RR machines will be supplied to the TT Rider Liaison Officers, John Barton and Richard ‘Milky’ Quayle, who support the newcomers and provide course inspections during the event itself.

“Our medical response team is continuously driving innovation to improve our safety standards,” Head of Motorsport, for the Isle of Man TT, Paul Phillips added. “Having the best equipment available to them – and to all our officials and marshals –  is essential in allowing them to operate as effectively and safely as possible.”

Alongside the bikes, BMW will also deliver a range of X5 and X3 SUVs, including a 616bhp X5M as the Medical Fast Response Car.
