Aprilia RSV4 Tuono - the rivals

Published: 05 August 2009

Last week we revealed spy pictures of Aprilia's RSV4 Tuono Factory track testing around Italy's Misano circuit. In this week's issue (on sale Aug 5) we've also got spy photos of the lower-priced version that features slightly lower spec suspension.

We estimate the price of this base model will be around £11,500. So what are the Tuono's rivals for the super naked crown? It faces some pretty stiff competition...

KTM Super Duke 990

KTM Super Duke 990, £9895
Wheelie machine that delivers top components, hammer-blow performance and stunning looks.

MV Agusta Brutale F4 1078RR

MV Agusta Brutale F4 1078RR, £13,999
The Italian firm has released a bewildering number of Brutale variants since the original 750. But the latest 1078RR version is different. It's as savagely fast as you'd expect, but it's friendly too.

Triumph Speed Triple

Triumph Speed Triple, £7999
Still a style king with huge street presence. It combines brutal looks with great performance and a bargain price. Due an update soon, but even that is going to be seriously out-gunned by Aprilia's Tuono.

Ducati Streetfighter

Ducati Streetfighter, £11,616
A new bike that represents the same idea as the Tuono, a naked bike that's based on a sports bike - in this case the Ducati 1098. Well received, but has been criticised for being a little too civilised by some.

Moto Morini Corsaro Veloce 1200

Moto Morini Corsaro Veloce 1200, £11,499
A left-field choice, but still a bike with a stomping great engine that can be great fun. Something different from the usual default naked bike choices available.
