2010 BMW R1200RT first impressions: 'beautifully comfortable'

MCN editor Marc Potter has just stopped for a brief rest on the launch of the new BMW R1200RT in the Malaga area of Spain. Here are his initial impressions after 70 miles of riding.

He said: “After the first bit of the ride today we've done 70 miles and my initial impression is that the RT doesn’t feel that different in terms of the new engine. I think the extra weight of the RT is dulling off the extra torque.

"The power is the same as the old engine at 110bhp but the torque is increased. I did get a quick blast on the new R1200GS and the new engine does show through on that bike as it’s more perky and more responsive than the old one.

“That said, the RT is a beautifully comfortable place to sit with your own little bubble of silence. Put the electric screen up, stick the cruise control on and it’s lovely.”
