BMW S1000RR at Brands Hatch MRO Stocksport

1 of 1

It’s been six long weeks since my last race with my new team in the MRO Stocksport championship. I can’t wait to blow out the cobwebs again this weekend at Brands in the MRO Stocksport championship.

My Team Vari-Trac BMW Park Lane squad (which only formed this year) have been busy in the meantime though. They provided two of their S1000RRs for me and WSB ace, Troy Corser to ride at the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed, which was really good fun. Team orders were to do burnouts and wheelies, which sounded good to me, although I couldn’t bring myself to burn out the brand new Metzeler Racetec Interact they’d fitted. Troy did!

On top of that, last weekend at Snetterton they completed their first ever Metzeler National Superstock 1000 race meeting with super-fast Steve Mercer at the helm. He finished a creditable eighth, which is a superb result given the competitiveness of the series.

This weekend at Brands will be my third outing on ‘my’ S1000RR and I’m starting to feel at home on the old girl. I’m going to try out some different suspension settings on the Friday free practice sessions to get me dialled in a little bit more. I still haven’t beaten the times I set on my old R1 yet, so there’s still lots of room for improvement.

There’s been lots of interest in the S1000RR this year, with all the power it has, the electronics and its nimble handling. It’s only when you get to race it that you really find out what it’s capable of. I’m putting together a report in MCN soon detailing what exactly the S1000RR is like to race. But in the meantime, Brands Hatch here we come!
