The 20th anniversary Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade is currently being put through its paces at the Portimao circuit, Portugal by MCN chief road tester Trevor Franklin.

This new model now comes with Showa Big Piston front forks and a new ‘Balance Free’ rear suspension design, developed for racing. There are also a host of revisions which include the ECU and fuelling system, a new dash display and bodywork tweaks.

Here’s what Trev has to say after a session on the Portimao circuit. “The Big Piston forks make a considerable difference to the stability under braking and give excellent feedback through the corners. The suspension has been left on standard settings along with the Bridgsetone 20S tyres, made specifically for the Fireblade – ‘20’ signifies the 20 years of the Fireblade.

“As it is at the moment the bike feels so much crisper at low rpm throttle openings, giving considerably more drive out of the slower turns. It really is the definitive Fireblade where anybody can make use of what it has to offer, in a safe and fast way”
