215bhp Yamaha R1 (190bhp if you’re feeling sensible)

1 of 1

The R1 is a machine of extremes… and this is one of the most extreme examples yet.

Canadian built, it’ll churn out 215bhp with its turbo boost set to ” brain-bust ” and a more sedate (ah, hem) 190bhp for everyday use.

Made by Graphic Art Motodesign in Quebec, owner Robert Dussault admits that it’s a little bit silly. But he does ride it on the road.

” Even on low-power, in the first three gears, you can’t give it full throttle, and even fourth’s a little ‘touchy’. That’s not the sort of power everybody would like on their roadbike, but I certainly do! ”

” It’ll only do around 100 miles to a tank of petrol, but for a ride like this, it’s certainly worth it. I’ve gone up a tooth on the front sprocket, and I got a true 190mph once. A bit more work with the gearing and some more determination from me and it’ll crack 200mph no problems. ”

The Marchesini lightweight magnesium wheels are held in place by only the highest quality components. A Harris single-sided swingarm was shipped to Canada from Hertford, England. A set of Ohlins forks holds the front wheel, and a top-of-the-range Ohlins shock completes the suspension in style. The normally awesome R1 brakes were canned as well, in favour of 6-piston PFM calipers and a pair of full-floating cast-iron PFM discs.

The engine had it’s compression lowered before Robert fitted the Schwitzer turbo to the one-off exhaust system. There’s an aluminium intercooler lurking in there as well. The end can is an off-the-shelf Two Bros carbon fibre item.

The clutch is modified and reinforced to cope with the ridiculous power out puts, and a full set of gauges – air/fuel ratio and boost guage plus relevant controls – have been installed in the front-left panel. Robert finished the engine off with a pair of impossibly shiny chrome engine cases.

And just in case nobody was going to notice his show-winning R1, Robert has just finished applying a Chameleon Tri-coat paint.
