Supermoto-style F650 due

BMW is ready to use its popular F650 single as a basis for an exciting new supermoto-style road bike.

The new bike will combine high-rise suspension with sticky sports tyres on 17-inch rims.

According to leading German bike magazine Motorrad, the bike is a replacement for the F650 Strada, which was not updated when the GS version of the bike was launched last year.

It is expected the new model will use the same 650cc Rotax-designed single-cylinder engine as the off-road oriented GS.

But where the GS uses chain drive, the ST is likely to have a belt drive system.

The bodywork will be similar to the GS, but an artist’s impression published by Motorrad shows a slightly more aggressive headlight unit.

When the bike goes on sale across Europe – it is expected to reach BMW dealers late this year – it should cost a little more than £5000.
