Aprilia’s big-bore scooter unveiled

This giant twist-and-go is Aprilia’s bid to enter the super scooter market. Called the Atlantic 500, it uses the 460cc engine from Piaggio’s X9.

The single cylinder engine makes a claimed 39bhp, and the bike weighs 193kg.

It should reach a top speed of around 100mph and accelerate quickly enough to embarrass boy racers in hatchbacks away from the lights.

The scooter is expected to arrive in dealer’s showrooms early next year, with a price of around £5000.
