Federico Minoli, Ducati Chairman and CEO, said: “We are not financial investors. We are moved by passion and we are dedicated to the success of Italian bikes worldwide.

“We are conscious that this success depends on respecting and enhancing the different identities of each single brand, each one directly linked with its products, its history and its territory.”

Ducati has announced an offer to buy a majority share in Aprilia.

The firm made its announcement on July 7 – the closing date for bids on the ailing group.

Ducati is thought to be up against Taiwanese scooter maker Kymco and Canadian jetski and quad maker Bombardier. There has also been interest from Piaggio.

Italian financial experts believe none of the bids so far produced are high enough to satisfy the banks currently running Aprilia.

MCN will be tracking developments to bring you all the news on the future of Aprilia as it happens.

Ducati has previously put in a bid just for Moto Guzzi – currently owned by the Aprilia group. This new bid is for a majority holding in the entire concern.
