Sportiest moped ever?

MCN man Matt Wildee has just stepped off the new Derbi GP1 scooter and reckons it could be the coolest 50 yet.

Wildee called back from the launch of the scooter in Spain and raved about the handling, style and performance.

“This is possibly the coolest moped ever,” said Wildee. “It’s got a beam frame and the engine is hung beneath it like it is on a proper bike. It’s chain driven and it’s got a proper swing arm so the suspension is so much better than a normal scooter that has a swinging engine.”

“The handling is really good with none of the wallowing you normally get on a scooter and the breaks are pretty good too with a radial calliper on the front disk.

“Derbi says it’s the sportiest scooter ever. Derestricted it’ll do over 55mph and if you wanted more performance you could simply change the sprockets. There is enough ground clearance to really lean it over as well.”

At £2300 the Derbi GP1 is not the cheapest 50cc scooter on the market but with this performance and these looks it’ll definitely please any 16 year old.

An identical 125cc version is due soon as is a 250cc version but unlike the other two the 250 will have a swinging engine.
