Production of Harley Davidson’s XR1200 kicked off at the firm’s manufacturing facility in Missouri yesterday.

The model is one of the most significant motorcycles produced by the manufacturer because it has been designed exclusively for the European market.

The XR1200 was inspired by Harley’s XR750 flat track racer, and features a 1200cc Evolution V-Twin engine that produces around 90bhp.

Harley Davidson’s European product planning team was heavily involved in developing the motorcycle, which was first shown as a prototype at the Cologne show in October 2006.

With production now underway, the XR1200 is likely to be in showrooms in June, priced at £7,655.
