Kawasaki targets younger riders with KLX250

Published: 20 September 2008

Kawasaki has taken the wraps off the 2009 bikes including the new ZX-6R, ER6-f and ER6-n, three new cruisers and a new KLX250 enduro-style machine.

Full details are in the September 24 issue of MCN.

Kawasaki has taken the engine from the successful Ninja 250R and built an all-new dual-purpose KLX250 enduro-style machine.

The KLX250 is based around the engine of the Ninja 250R road bike but this is a road-biased machine rather than an all-out enduro competition bike like the hardcore KLX450R in the Kawasaki range. The 450 is extremely focused - based around an almost unchanged KXF450 motocross machine. It's like comparing a Ninja 250R and a ZX-10R in terms of performance. The 250 is a lot softer and is road biased rather than off-road as it's natural home.

The fuel injected, KLX250 gets electric starting plus a well proven and durable 249cc water-cooled double overhead cam motor.

The lightweight, high-tensile steel perimeter frame offers both great cornering performance and straight-line stability while the 43mm inverted cartridge fork and fully adjustable gas-charged rear shock allow the KLX to be enjoyed both on road with some light off road action possible.
