Honda’s CBR1000RR Fireblade was the best selling motorcycle in March as dealers shifted 272 from showroom floors. 2012 Honda Fireblades for sale. Running it a close second was the BMW R1200GS, which sold 229 units, with the Honda CBR600F third placed with 135 sold.

What’s the real story? While the updated 2012 Fireblade certainly contributed to these figures from the Motorcycle Industry Association, there is also a strong possibility that dealers were getting rid of the older 2011 Fireblades at a reduced price as well as pre-registering bikes and putting demos on their fleets – all which help increase the registration numbers.

The MCIA’s figures don’t take into account the specific model of bike and instead classify the 2011 and 2012 Fireblade together.

On the positive side of things, year to date bike sales in 2012 are up 2.7% compared to 2011, scooter sales are up 16.1% and adventure bike sales have rocketed 38.6%.

March saw 2260 adventure bikes sold; up from 1627 in 2011.
