Harley-Davidson has entered the commuter market with its first all-new model for 13 years, the Street 750 and 500.
Aimed squarely at ‘urban young adults’ both Street models feature a new liquid-cooled V-twin and, at a claimed 221kg fuelled and ready, are the lightest Harleys ever to leave the Milwaukee factory.
While the 500 remains for now a US-only model, the 750 is destined for Europe where Harley hope that the Street’s combination of urban practicality and accessibilty to all types of rider – including women -- will dovetail with the traditional Harley virtues.
The new Revolution X 60-degree V-twin uses liquid cooling to better manage traffic-induced heat, plus a six-speed gearbox for urban punch. Relatively sharp geometry will help make it one of the most nimble Harleys ever built.
Harley says that while the Street is all new, it remains an autentic ‘steel’ Harley. There will, of course, be a full catalogue of custom parts available for both models…
