MILAN SHOW: Yamaha finally unveil MT-03 roadster
It’s long been rumoured to be on the way, and now it’s here – a naked version of the excellent A2-friendly YZF-R3. The latest family member in the Yamaha MT line-up (which has sold over 70,000 units globally since the MT-09 was launched), the 03 neatly fills in the gap between the popular MT-125 and the wildly popular MT-07.
Yamaha MT-03 highlights
- YZF-R3 based 321cc engine
- 42bhp | 21.8ftlb | 168kg
- 780mm seat height
The new model draws heavily on its dressed sibling, taking the engine, chassis, suspension and wheels from the YZF-R3, and laying it all bare. That means a 321cc 4-stroke 4-valve parallel-twin kicking out around 42bhp, and close to 22ftlbs torque, wrapped up in a slim frame with a neat R1-inspired asymmetrical swingarm. The seat height is a workably middling 780mm, which should suit most riders, while ABS will give a useful safety net to newbies and old hands alike.
Expect it to arrive in dealers in February for around £4379.
