BMW update their R18 cruiser stable with more torque, more tech, and styling tweaks throughout for 2025

BMW have given their five-strong R18 cruiser range a tickle for 2025, introducing subtle chassis changes, styling tweaks, engine improvements and more on-board tech throughout.

Launched in 2020, the line-up now consists of the original R18, the R18 Classic, R18 Roctane, R18B (for bagger), and the flagship R18 Transcontinental model

The updates bring all flavours in line with Euro 5+ emissions standards without impacting peak power from the 1802cc transverse twin-cylinder engine, which retains a healthy 91bhp output.

Torque, however, has been boosted by 3.7 lb-ft at the top end, totalling a lofty 120.2 lb-ft overall – 90 percent of which is available below 4000rpm.

Core Changes

The standard R18 sees the most substantial changes, with the rear wheel growing from 16 to 18 inches.

This is paired with a new seven double-spoke design contributing to what BMW describe as a more dynamic appearance.

Customers who would rather retain for the old 19/16-inch configuration can still do so via a cast wheel package plucked from BMW’s options catalogue.

Redesigned front and rear fenders also add a touch of modernisation, while the side covers are re-contoured for a sharper look.

In a nod to improving comfort, there’s also a new seat with 10mm thicker padding and improved contours, plus the rear suspension setup gains new spring and damping rates.

Rounding out the changes are new rear silencers, daytime running lights (DRL) as standard, and the addition of a USB-C charging port.

The Classic now makes use of a new 19-inch spoked front, replacing the previous 16-inch setup, while retaining its 16-inch hoop out back.

Other changes come in the form of an extended front fender, updated side covers, and DRLs and the USB-C socket introduced with the base R18.

Back in black

Both these machines are available in optional Blacked Out equipment variants which lean into a moodier look, with components including the powertrain, exhaust, and trim finished in black gloss and dark chrome.

These finishes are available in a variety of colour schemes, including Mineral Grey Metallic Matt and Two-Tone Brooklyn Grey Metallic.

The R18 Roctane, which debuted in mid-2023, now gains a Two-Tone Dragonfire Red Metallic paint scheme, optional filler panels to tidy up the rear, and Dark Chrome finishes on the pushrods, intake silencers, and headlight rings.

The R18B and Transcontinental also see their share of refinements. A new ‘favourites’ button on the handlebar provides direct access to functions such as heated grips without delving into the instrument console menu.

All models get access to a new optional comfort package, unlocking features like hill start assist, lockable fuel filler caps, tyre pressure monitoring, and heated grips or seats, depending on the model.

Prices for UK models are yet to be announced.
