Suzuki used the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in New Delhi to launch their first battery electric motorcycle, with a spokesperson for the UK arm of the business suggesting it could be heading to our market later in 2025.

Set to be called the e-Address in the UK (to match the naming of the Address 125 in our market – it was announced as an e-Access at the show) the urban scoot was revealed on January 17 alongside a 124cc combustion version, and a 249cc ‘Gixxer SF250’ to go on sale in India from this month.

“Suzuki will introduce various BEV (battery electric vehicle) models in order to realise a carbon neutral society,” Suzuki’s Representative Director and President, Toshihiro Suzuki said at the show.

“In addition to BEVs, we offer a variety of other options, including synthetic fuels, hydrogen engines, and biofuels and aim to meet the expectations of society and customers.”

Back in January 2023, Suzuki confirmed their first electric model would arrive in 2024 and further committed to eight EVs by 2030.

They’ve also discussed a multi-pathway approach to carbon neutrality at length and last year committed to invest £12.4bn in R&D across all operations, plus a further £15.5bn in capital expenditures by 2030. A claimed £3.1bn of that is set to be used for battery-related investments.

Suzuki GB’s Marketing Manager, Jak Tyrrell followed up the President’s comments by saying: “While we believe that a multi-pathway approach to net zero is required across the spectrum of motorcycling, there is no doubt that battery EV is an excellent solution to small capacity, personal mobility.”

He continued: “While this recent announcement is solely for the Indian market, we expect to be able to announce details of a version of the e-Address for launch into the European market later this year.”

Designed to appeal to riders of all experience levels, the e-Address gets a claimed seat height of just 765mm, and a kerb weight of 122kg. There’s also a claimed 5.5bhp and 11.1lb.ft of torque.

It’s powered by a fixed lithium iron-phosphate battery, which will charge from 0-100% in a claimed 6.7 hours – a long time for a range of 54.1 miles.

The fixed nature of the battery could also be potential stumbling block to some inner-city users, who might not have access to charging facilities outside their home. Other rivals, such as the £3299 Honda EM1 e have removable batteries for charging away from the machine.

Suzuki themselves say that the battery design has been chosen in this format to achieve underseat storage, with 17-litres of luggage space available under the flat rider and pillion perch.

Other tech includes a colour TFT dash with smartphone connectivity, plus keyless ignition, regenerative braking, reverse mode, and a system to prevent overcharging when plugged in. An auto-tensioner on the drive belt also helps to reduce maintenance.
