Harley-Davidson unveil Fat Boy Gray Ghost to mark 35 years of the model with trick new mirror-finish

Harley-Davidson have lifted the lid on their fifth and latest limited-edition model in the ongoing Icons Motorcycles Collection.

Called the Fat Boy Gray Ghost, the new cruiser is built to celebrate 35 years of the Fat Boy, which has established itself as one of the brand’s most iconic models – it was Arnie’s ride of choice in Terminator 2, after all.

Limited to 1990 units worldwide, the bike features a fancy new reflection finish, which has been achieved using a process called physical vapour deposition (PVD).

The finish is applied to parts like the fuel tank and fenders, resulting in a mirror-like surface that’s said to be more durable than traditional chrome.

The PVD process, previously used by the American firm for smaller parts like tank medallions and exhaust shields, is now featured on the larger parts of a production Harley-Davidson model for the first time.

PVD is said to offer corrosion resistance superior to traditional chrome plating. In addition to the gleaming new finish, the Gray Ghost model boasts chrome side covers, a silver powder-coated frame, and numerous styling cues that hark back to the original Fat Boy.

Highlights include round air cleaners, yellow accents, a leather seat valance with lacing and tassels, and commemorative tank medallions that reference the original winged graphic.

The new bike also comes equipped with the brand’s whopping 1923cc Milwaukee-Eight 117 Custom motor, churning out 101bhp and 122 lb-ft of torque.

That equates to a modest increase over the outgoing 2024 Fat Boy 114, with a 7% rise in horsepower and a 3% increase in torque.

In terms of tech, the Gray Ghost mirrors the 2025 Fat Boy’s improvements, including recalibrated suspension, selectable ride modes (Road, Rain, and Sport), and Harley’s Rider Safety Enhancements – which brings along features including cornering ABS, tyre pressure monitoring, traction control, and drag-torque slip control.

There’s plenty of creature comforts to note, too, such as a five-inch, console-mounted instrument display, LED lighting, a USB-C power port, and relocated heated gear connectors for easier access.
