Moto Guzzi V7 Centenario pays tribute to classic racers

Moto Guzzi are celebrating their 100th anniversary with a Centenario edition of the V7 and V85TT models. Both bikes get a livery reminiscent of the brand’s 8-cylinder and 350 Bialbero race bikes of the 1950s.

The ever-popular entry level Moto Guzzi V7  is updated for 2021 with a new engine, drivetrain and even some new tech.

The V7 has been through a few evolutions since it returned in 2007 but the parts have remained pretty much the same until now.

Gone is the old 744cc motor in favour of a new 850cc engine based on the mill in the V85TT. It’s not the same engine though – Guzzi say it’s all new and with it comes different (read lower) power figures.

The new engine makes 63bhp and 53.8 ftlbs, which is a significant boost compared to the previous 50bhp engine but also a bit of a let-down when you consider the V85TT makes 79bhp. This time around Moto Guzzi are also producing an A2 compliant reduced power version, which might help it hook in some new riders.

Paired with this new bigger engine is a set of new bigger everything else. The exhausts are larger (and routed slightly differently); as are the final drive unit, rear wheel (now 150/70) saddle and KYB shocks, which give more suspension travel.

There’s even a new headstock design in the frame for increased stiffness. On the styling side of things, the rear mudguard is shorter and there are new side panels, which together with the pipes give it a funkier look.

There are two distinct versions of the V7: the Stone and the Special. The Stone is the more modern option with full LED lighting (featuring the Guzzi eagle DRL just like the V85) as well as a nice new full digital dash.

The wheels are cast alloy for a sportier vibe while there are three colour options all with a satin finish: Nero Ruvido (black), Azzurro Chiaccio (blue) and Arancione Rame (orange).

The Special is for people who prefer the classic look, so it sticks with dual analogue clocks, halogen bulbs and wire wheels. There are two paint options: Blu Formale (blue) and Grigio Casual (grey).

There’s no UK pricing or availability just yet but we’d imagine the new bikes will be available early next year, with prices starting from £8500.
