Hein Gericke Rallye II Gore-Tex boots, £199.99
Miles covered/time: 3000/three months
What’s good? I was attracted by the understated style of these boots, along with the fact that they’re Gore-Tex lined and should therefore keep my tootsies warm and dry in all weathers. Although this refreshingly dry summer has meant that opportunities to test the latter have been few and far between, I have been caught in a couple of downpours – and the boots have kept my feet bone-dry each time. The combination of Nappa, cowhide and suede makes for great comfort on the bike and made for a blister-free day in blistering heat wandering around Cadwell Park’s first BSB round of the year. Even the twin plastic buckles on each boot have held up well, despite my initial reservations about their robustness.
What’s not? The finish at the top of the boots makes me think of the elasticated waistband on the kind of trousers favoured by OAPs – but that’s more to do with my perception than any problem with the boots’ construction.
