Hein Gericke Spyder gloves, £39.99

What's good? These are everything I want from a summer glove, and I use them for commuting every day (as long as there¹s no rain forecast they're not waterproof). They're light, the single adjustable Velcro cuff fitting means they can be put on in a jiffy, the soft and supple leather on the palms and goatskin elsewhere mean the sensations being passed through to my fingers and palms are not dulled, while the perforated leather panels provide enough ventilation to keep clammy hand syndrome at bay. And I think they look cool, whether I'm riding my classic Bonnie or KTM Duke long-termer.
What's not? Gloves with a beefier construction and hi-tech plastic carbuncles will no doubt give much better protection in a crash. But a) I don't intend to crash and b) I'm prepared to compromise on the level of protection as the pay-off in improved feel is so great.
