What’s good about the Oxford RP-2 gloves?
These are a good-looking, cheap pair of sporty summer gloves. And while the price may suggest a few corners have been cut it’s actually quite hard to find fault with them. They are made from aniline leather and feel light and supple, yet thick enough to instill confidence. There’s decent padding around the lower palm and thumb and carbon-fibre knuckle and finger joint protection. The two wrist fastenings – upper and lower - work well and it’s easy to get a good, sound fit. I’ve used these on road and track and have found them light and cool – thanks to the Coolmax moisture-wicking upper lining. They come in a load of different colour choices, although I like this red option and at around £50 they offer excellent value for money.
And what’s not?
Because these are very obviously summer gloves and not waterproof I have only worn them on days when the sun is shining and there is little chance of rain. That means I have not really put them through the mill yet and I’ve not crashed in them either. So while the seams and straps are all bearing up well so far, I’d need to see how it’s going come the end of this summer.
