Arai VX Pro Helmet (now replaced with the VX Pro 3 – prices from £349.99 in plain colours)
Miles covered/time: 4000 off road/ over four years
What’s good? Like most Arai helmets I have found this VX Pro supremely comfortable to wear all day long.
I have used it for a variety of off-road adventures ranging from gentle green-laning, the beaches of Le Touquet, various enduros, and most recently in the heat of the African sun.
It’s light, has a washable liner and removable cheekpads. The only damage it ever really suffered we a broken top-vent which was easily replaced in five minutes.
What’s not? It’s not possible to close the large mesh ‘vent’ in the chin piece and as a consequence a lot of dust and cold air can whistle straight through.
I often used to tape it up with duct tape! (although this has now been remedied on the latest model).
