AGV K3-SV helmet, £149.99-£179.99
Time tested: Three months/2000 miles
What’s good? The combination of aggressive, sporty looks and a reasonable price will make this helmet attractive to a lot of people. It’s also more practical than the looks might suggest, with a dropdown internal sun visor and provision for the optional AGV Share Bluetooth communications system, which costs an extra £119.99. The helmet is comfortable, with a soft lining that beds in with time (so err on the side of a tight fit when buying) and not terribly heavy for a plastic-shelled lid. The inner visor mechanism is neat, but it’s easier to drop it than to raise it, and the Pinlock anti-mist insert does its job. The chin vents are highly effective at drawing in fresh air and the top vents works well too. It’s a comfortable, well-made helmet with decent features for a good price.
What’s not? The Pinlock is a basic version rather than the MaxVision used in some other helmets for this money, which will give a better field of vision. The trim around the base is made from harder plastic and scuffs if put on a rough surface, where a softer rubber trim wouldn’t get scuffed up.
