Shoei GT Air is whisper quiet

1 of 1

Time tested: Three months/800 miles

What’s good? When looking for a new helmet I wanted something that looked cool and sporty while also being practical enough for my long daily commute, and in the GT-Air, Shoei’s first full-face helmet to feature a drop-down sun visor, I’m fairly happy I’ve found that.

I thought my old X-Lite X661 was quiet, but the GT-Air takes it to another level. I guess that’s helped by Shoei’s medium fit suiting my head size to a tee. The only thing I didn’t like when first looking at the GT Air were the bulky air vents, but they’re actually quite smart and pleasingly easy to operate, even with winter gloves on. The UV blocking drop-down sun visor is also easily accessible, not that it’s been needed too frequently over recent months!

What’s not? After a few hundred miles, a whistle started to develop and I think it’s coming from around the visor. I plan to get the visor adjusted to see if that helps. Assuming the whistle is caused by the visor not fitting plush against the seal, this is also causing the visor to steam up quite quickly around the outside of the Pinlock insert.
