Product review: AGV K5-S Darkstorm
Tester Joe Dick
Miles used: 12000 miles over 18 months
The K5-S is what AGV would call a ‘premium sports-touring helmet’ and is packed full of neat little features.
With curved lines and a carbon and fibreglass mixed construction, features include a drop-down sun visor, fully removable liner and a Pinlock-ready visor. There’s also a double-D strap and integrated rear spoiler.
Alongside this, the K5 sits nicely at motorway speeds, with little buffeting and remains comfortable on longer rides. The cheek pads are also pressure-free for all-day riding and the visor can be removed without any tools for easy changes.
Despite its nice touches, the helmet is unfortunately flawed. The visor aperture is wide enough, but it’s narrow from top to bottom. The liner is attached at the front of the helmet using Velcro, which can move and rub on my forehead.
Even with the supplied Pinlock insert, the visor mists up in cold weather and the internal sun shade doesn’t come down far enough, leaving a bright gap between itself and the bottom of the main visor. The internal chin vent is also very difficult to operate with a gloved hand.
