What's good? Call me a wuss but I believe in wearing leather rather than anything synthetic for as long as possible before the cold sets in. This 'mid-layer' has bought me another month's riding in leathers at least. It's made of a thin but windproof material with another thin but insulating layer of micropile inside. It weighs nothing and generates an incredible amount of warmth considering it fits (just) under my leathers. Good for general outdoorsy wear too, though my colleagues don't concur.
What's not? It's expensive, being designed for mountaineering.
