Under Armour Heatgear Tactical Full Tee, £22
Miles covered/time: 500/two months
What’s good? This compression-fit base layer is simply the best I’ve ever worn on a bike. As the days start to get warmer, and the weekends longer, the benefit of wearing something that’s designed to transport sweat away from your skin and keep you cool in the warmest of conditions isn’t to be underestimated.
I’ve covered 300 miles by motorcycle, and 200 by push bike with this top, and it’s so comfortable in both situations that I forget I’m wearing it. I’ve a long-sleeved top, too, which makes it a little easier to pull a sticky leather jacket on after a long day in the saddle.
As I write, I have just spent eight in wearing it beneath a cardigan in a hot, air-condition-less office. My back is no more than slightly tacky.
What’s not: As this is a short-sleeved version of the full-on long-sleever, on the hottest of days you might find yourself pulling your already sweaty leather jacket on over equally sweaty arms. The extra £3 for the long-sleeved tee is a wise investment.
