Kit review: IXS leather jacket

1 of 1

IXS leather jacket, £119.99 (superseded by X-Jacke Beaver / Heritage / Caldera)

Miles covered/time: 6000 miles/one year

What’s good? There are two schools of motorcycle fashion. The first is to look like a colour blind peacock, the other is to look mean and weathered.

This jacket is king of the latter category. It’s a big, heavy, black leather piece of kit that offers very solid protection for a decent price.

It’s got four well-placed outer pockets, two within, a removable lining and despite its reassuring bulk it’s reasonably soft. I was knocked off my bike while wearing it and it’s barely marked.

What’s not? It’s very heavy, so much so that you’ll turn to your lightweight textile jacket for everyday journeys.

It’s also not very versatile as you’ll have to be sure it’s not going to rain for extended periods on your journey, making it unsuitable for touring.

I still love wearing it though. It’s got real integrity, no unnecessary frills and when you want to look like a tough biker there’s no better choice.
