What’s good: Under a ton for a warm and practical jacket can’t be bad. You can take the lining out on hot days and there are easy-to-use vents that make a real difference – I’ve worn this Tuzo Freedom jacket for a full day’s advanced training and stayed comfortable throughout. I’m also keen on the adjustable collar – the popper slides in its mounting, so I don’t get the being-throttled feeling I’ve had with some other jackets. Other useful touches include a big pocket round the back and a secure inside pocket for phones, wallets and the like. So far I’ve not encountered a sufficient downpour to rate the waterproof claims. It comes in black, black/red, black/blue and black/gunmetal in sizes XS to 5XL.
What’s not: The zips on the cuffs aren’t great. They are waterproof zips but are fairly budget in their construction and prone to snagging. If you wear your gloves over the cuffs you’ll be fine but I like to tuck my waterproof summer gloves under the cuffs and that exacerbates the weakness in the zips and can see irritating draughts nipping up your sleeve. Also, there’s no built-in back protector and the adjuster on the sleeves doesn’t quite have enough Velcro on the strap to make a real difference.
