Clothing Review: Held Carese Jacket & Torno Trousers

Held Carese Jacket (£529.99) & Torno Trousers (£399.99)

Time tested: 9000 miles / 4 months

What’s good? Great riding kit comes into its own when the elements are against you, and as motorcycles are my primary source of transport (legs excepted) all year round and in all weathers, the kit I wear is very important to me. This Carese jacket / Torno trouser combo replaces my previous Held suit, which had done four years’ service, and over 50,000 miles. Its performance gave me all the confidence I needed to go with Held again. The new items have moved the quality on, too. While most clothing seems to be getting poorer quality, Held is going up in the world. It’s the small details that really count, like the improved zip closures. For example: My old suit used rubber zip pulls, which eventually snapped, the new one uses metal. After almost 10,000 miles of daily use, the new suit has proved to be superbly comfortable, practical and completely water tight. I also like the understated ‘Rallye’ styling, the well thought out closures, ventilation and quality feel.

What’s not? It’s not the warmest jacket I’ve ever tried. The wind stopping properties are excellent, but the sheer thickness of it can’t keep sub-zero temperatures at bay as the liner is very thin, with no quilting. With a heated vest or thermal layer beneath, its other properties ensure that you’re well looked after.
