Jacket Review: Acerbis LED Vision jacket

Acerbis LED Vision jacket, £59.95

Time tested: Four months/3000 miles

What’s good? I can’t think of a better way of been seen in the dark of dull conditions than this jacket with embedded flashing LED lights, which has white lights on the front and red on the rear. Drivers really take notice. Other road users are more aware of your presence. Cars don’t hug the outside lane as much as I’m clearly visible in their mirror. I also don’t feel as venerable at night when waiting to turn right at busy junctions, because I feel more visible and prominent. You can change the flashing rate with a small button on the inside of the jacket, or switch them on permanently. The lights run from a small battery that’s included, the jacket is waterproof and you also get waterproof trousers, but those don’t have lights.

What’s not? It’s a little distracting as the lights reflect in your clocks or mirrors when they flash. I kept thinking someone was behind me flashing or I’d left an indicator on. It’s also distracting at night down small lanes with no street lights as the jacket flashes light up the road.  Also the button to change the frequency of the lights is hard to get to on the move. The cuffs are really tight and it’s hard to get them over a winter jacket.
