Astars Tyler down jacket, £279.99
Time used: Six months
What’s good? Aimed at scooter and city riders, this lightweight, thermal casual jacket has elbow and shoulder armour, plus pockets to take back and chest protectors. The main body of the jacket is made from quilted body-warmer-type material and comes with loops to thread around your riding jeans’ belt buckle straps for security. It comes with a removable hood, but I’ve taken it off to wear on a bike as it gets in the way at speed. It’s warm, especially the polo neck-style collar section, stylish and fits extremely well.
What’s not? It’s not the kind of jacket you’d wear for high-speed riding and aside from the shoulder and elbow armour it isn’t going to offer a lot of crash protection. But it’s the perfect jacket for wearing to work on your bike for short commutes, if you can afford the high price tag.
