Alpinestars GP Pro jacket
Time used Five years/20,000 miles
What’s good? Everyone has their favourite, slightly scruffy black leather biker jacket – one they adore and just keep coming back to again and again. This is mine: the Alpinestars GP Pro, which I’ve had since 2011. Still on sale, it’s been updated along with a slightly different spec and design, but it’s essentially the same jacket, made from 1.3mm full grain satin-finish leather with a removable mesh lining and CE-certified armour in the elbows and shoulders. It wears the patina of five years’ worth of riding in the sun, rain – being covered in dirt, muck and flies and cleaned off again, but it’s worn beautifully and is still in perfect condition. There isn’t a frayed seam or sticky zip to be found and with all that use, it fits me better than any other jacket I own. I love the fact the graphics aren’t too ‘in your face’, too. It’ll easily go on for another five years… in fact, the way it’s going, it’ll probably outlast me.

What’s not? The racing hump is a bit big, but this jacket is actually the top half of a two-piece racing suit and other ‘humpless’, less racy versions are available.
