PJB Untouchable lock and two-metre chain, 189.99
Time used: Seven months
What’s good? I bought this after noticing someone had interfered with my home security arrangements for a brand new Yamaha Diversion. Seven months later I still have the bike.
At two metres long and with 19mm-thick links, it’s one of the biggest chains on the market. The links are simply too thick to fit in the jaws of bolt croppers and it’s long enough to lock a wheel to a lamppost while parked in the street, or to easily lock two bikes together.
The padlock is compact and easy to use and it’s competitively priced. At the moment, PJB are even throwing in a free ground anchor, a fantastic bargain.
What’s not? At 16kg, you can’t exactly sling it in a rucksack. The sleeve is not fastened well enough at the ends and almost immediately worked lose, exposing links which can scratch wheels.
Or, while I’m out, someone could pull back the sleeve, cut a link and replace it with a zip tie so they can return and steal the bike later (an old trick). A plastic cap attached to the padlock quickly detached itself, ready to be lost.
