Kit review: KTM tank bag

KTM tank bag, £104.94
Mark Holmes
Miles covered/time: 2000/one month

What’s good? This bag is tailor-made for the Duke 690, so allows access to the fuel filler flap on the highly-sculpted tank. Fitting is via simple straps – one at the front that goes around the headstock, two at the rear which loop around the trellis frame. The bag can be zipped off its base, allowing it to be carried with the incorporated handle, which has made it a handy alternative to a rucksack for everyday use (and relieves strain on your shoulders when riding). It had enough capacity for all my clothes and toiletries for a long weekend trip to France recently, with a main extendable compartment backed up by two side pockets and one rear pocket.
What’s not? The whole thing’s a bit wobbly on the move (although your thighs help to hold it on). It’s not waterproof, but does come with a waterproof bag to put your stuff in. Get it wet and the transparent map pocket is soon full of condensation. Although the zip-on/zip-off idea is a good one, it’s a bugger to get the zip located in the dark.
