Keysinthepost.com replacement ignition key, £7.49
Miles covered/time: 500/two months
What's good: An easy way to get a replacement key for motorcycles manufactured between 1970 and 2010. Just enter the number stamped on the original when making the online purchase, or upload a photo of it, and a new one will arrive by First Class post the following day for under £8 all-in.
What’s not: They’re not cut from original blanks and my replacement GPz550 key didn’t look much like the Kawasaki one. More importantly, it didn’t fit the bike. I’d ordered it by providing the key number. Keysinthepost.com apologised and asked me to email a photo of the original too.
Then they said they’d run out of blanks. Ten days after ordering, the correct key turned up. Not quite the straightforward experience I’d hoped for, but the firm’s attitude was polite and professional throughout so I’m prepared to believe it’s not typical.
