ProGuard BikerPlugz, £14.99
Time tested: Two months, 2000 miles
What’s good? There are lots of positives to these reusable earplugs, which are far superior to the basic foam earplugs I’d used for my previous 12 years of motorcycling. These are more comfortable, block out less of the noise I want to hear while also reducing the windblast that I don’t want to hear and fit better, which means they don’t get dislodged by my helmet lining when I put it on. But the biggest plus for regular riders like me is that they can be washed and re-used, which means no more rifling through my pockets for a clean pair among all the previously used ones lurking inside. They come with a small carrycase to stop them getting grubby in a jacket pocket and there are two sizes of tips to choose from to make sure you get a good fit in your ear canal. I’m not sure why I didn’t switch to plugs like these a long time ago.
What’s not? Nothing to report, not even the price – which is the equivalent of 38 pairs of the foam earplugs and that amount wouldn’t last me for a year.
