Product Review: Mitutyo ABSOLUTE AOS Digimatic Caliper 0-150mm

Mitutyo ABSOLUTE AOS Digimatic Caliper 0-150mm, £118.80

Time tested: Five years

What’s good? Whether you’re buying secondhand parts off Ebay or building a custom bike from the ground up, calipers are a must. Being able to accurately determine the dimensions of a part means you’re much less likely to buy an incorrect replacement and when it comes to fabricating there’s no faster way to accurately measure small distances. The benefit of a digital caliper over a dial model is being able to switch between metric and imperial displays (handy if you own both Brit and Japanese machines). Plus being able to reset the display to zero regardless of jaw position allows you to instantly compare parts.
The Absolute AOS digital caliper is Mitutoyo’s basic model, but it’s still a class piece of engineering. Despite being dropped a few times, this Digimatic caliper still measures correctly and the hardened jaws unmarked. batteries last up to three years.

What’s not? Pricey if you’re only going to use it once in a while.
