Product review: PGR Racepaint paintwork for MCN’s Harley flat tracker
PGR Racepaint in Manchester give our Harley-Davidson Street 750 flat tracker a stunning custom paint job and here's why we give them a five-star review.
With the build of the MCN Harley-Davidson Street 750 flat tracker coming together, we needed to get the tank and seat panels painted. Step forward Phil Guillou from PGR Racepaint in Manchester.
We gave Phil the Harley's tank and tailpiece along with a loose brief to reflect both the heritage of a Harley flat tracker and also retain a bit of MCN flavour. Phil got back to us with a design that embraced all of the criteria we asked for and went beyond our expectations.
The turnaround of the service was first class and within a day of Phil receiving the parts he had got back to us and discussed the design, made one or two tweaks and then got cracking with prepping and painting. The tank and seat panels were then returned to us the same week. The parts were expertly packed with bespoke packing material for painted parts and the finished job is stunning - with rich, vivid colours and an unbelievably deep, unblemished shine.
Phil explained that he only uses a top-quality two-pack paint system that gives a very hard finish and a deep shin and that the decals used were designed and produced in-house, too. The finished bike looks fantastic and the blend of custom engineering and bespoke paintwork really makes it look special. It's no wonder that some of the top teams in the BSB and TT paddock use his services.
Being such an in-demand painter, Phil admits that often he can't always deliver such a quick turnaround, however we would've been happy to wait in the queue. This service does come at a cost, though and all told, the design and paint job for our tank and seat cowl cost £630. This price reflects the service though and it's a pure custom and ultra-high quality finish. In addition, the guy you speak to on the phone when you book it in is the guy doing the work.
