Dainese Mugello D-air race suit, £3399.99
Dainese's new D-air racing suit brings the benefits of research and development work by Valentino Rossi to the trackdayer and amateur racer. The new airbag-equipped leathers have been honed in private testing by the nine-times world champion, and he is expected to wear the suit in competiton this year.
The headline news is the extension of the airbag area. This now protects the chest and ribcage, in addition to the shoulders and neck that were already covered on the previous version of this customer-spec suit. In terms of comfort, a new lining arrangement around the knees promises to prevent bunching, and there's also a fresh one-piece elasticated stretch panel that extends from the shoulders down to the lower spine. Redesigned elbow sliders now use a new attachment method that no longer requires tools for removal and replacement.
The D-air's available in the spring, in sizes 34-50 as well as an extra-cost made-to-measure option. www.dainese.com
