Metzeler Racetec RR K3 £126.03 (front) £184.56 (rear)
Time tested Three months/2000 miles
What’s good I was a little apprehensive about going for an out-and-out sports tyre for my long-term Husqvarna 701 Supermoto. I’m not quick enough to truly to take the tyres to their limits and I would be using them everyday on the commute, but I needn’t have worried.
The Racetecs gave me loads of confidence almost as soon as I rolled out of the car park. They were warm enough within 10 minutes for me to comfortably lean to the edge of the tyre. On track they’re brilliant – just one lap is all that’s needed to bring them up to temperature and they offer bags of grip – way more than I know what to do with.
After 2000 miles – a lot of those commuting – they’re holding up exceptionally well. They haven’t squared and wear has been minimal and even. They even offer decent grip in the cold and wet of Autumn.
What’s not: The only real downside is their lack of suitability for cold/wet weather, but there’s still a good amount of grip. They’re quite pricey, but for the grip and mileage I can’t complain too much.
Quality rating: 5/5
Value rating: 4/5
PROS: Warm up fast, offer plenty of grip.
CONS: Not best suited to the colder, wetter months.
GRIP: The grip is incredibly consistent all the way to the edge of the tyre.
WARM UP: They warm up incredibly fast, giving confidence right from the off.
MILEAGE: Despite them being sport tyres they’ve lasted incredibly well with plenty of life left after 2000 miles
