Today's bike of the day is the short-lived and often forgotten BMW G650 XCountry.
"Mature owner. Bought in June 2014 and shipped over from N. Ireland. I kept the number plate as it is distinctive. Odometer reading on issue of new MOT on 15 August 2017 was 1128 miles. This is because a new instrument console was fitted in November 2014 (left indicator light not working). MOT certificate from August 2014 shows 10801 miles. So total mileage is about 12000. I intended this bike to replace my very old F650GS. Unfortunately I am sentimentally attached to the old one and cannot part with it. Hence this sale. Blemishes shown in photos, a small cut in the seat (there when I bought it and not any bigger) and lightly scraped exhaust.
"MPG is excellent but the tank is irritatingly small (I ran it from full to the reserve light on for 130 miles and got to a petrol station). No rust, crash bars, heated grips and nicely matched Givi box. Has done very few miles with me but took it in a van to Scotland last year where it was brilliant on the west coast roads. Sorry, one advisory on the MOT, 'steering head bearing has slight freeplay'. Also had the bike serviced at the time of MOT (last week) in a bike shop in Bury St Edmunds. Bike always garaged."
"Be honest, you'd forgotten about the 650cc single-cylinder Country, hadn't you? The XCountry and its siblings - the XMoto and XChallenge - were short lived which means today they're quite cheap on the used market. The XCountry works well as a scrambler-styled city bike thanks to the torquey single-cylinder engine and it's a funky looking bike. The XCountry makes a lot of sense as a cheap commuter."
