Yamaha's 2008-2016 R6 ruled the supersport class since from its birth to its death (when it was updated for Euro4) thanks to its razor sharp handling and a screaming motor, complete with an updated ECU and fuel injection.

Taking the battle directly to the likes of the Honda CBR600RR, Kawasaki ZX-6R and the Triumph Daytona 675, the lairy R6 was all about stripped-back race bike appeal, with the only real equipment on offer being the fly-by-wire throttle and variable inlet tracts. Those wanting more toys should perhaps look elsewhere on MCN Bikes For Sale.

Former MCN Chief Road Tester Trevor Franklin attended the launch of the bike towards the back end of 2007 and said: "The biggest area of improvement with this Yamaha R6 over the previous model happens in the ride.

"The frame has been stiffened around the headstock to reduce braking effect through the frame and then reduced the frame’s overall stiffness for more agility. This is topped off with a heavier braced swingarm.

"The motorcycle is more stable but retains its quick steering ability. The suspension has been revised internally and is arguably the best mass-produced stuff on any current production bike. The bars are 5mm lower and angled slightly different, but it’s still the same motorcycle to ride; only better when riding faster."

These handling traits make the R6 a superb race bike, which is evident from the example below:

What the seller says

"This black Yamaha R6 is in fantastic condition and was raced by James Westmoreland for Team Traction Control in the British Supersport Championship in 2016, where he finished second overall.

"The engine was tuned by TTC to British Supersport Standards with brand new 2018 cams and it has done around 600km. The bike produced 142bhp and was the fastest British Supersport 600 at almost every round (the dyno sheets and speed trap times from BSB are available with the bike).

"Also fitted are factory Ohlins forks and rear shock, as well as a Motec electronics package including the loom, dash, GPS lap timer, quick shifter and potentiometers.

"Titanium Akrapovic headers fit to a Pipewerx tapered 50-60mm link pipe and 60mm Pipewerx Can. Lightech rearsets, dry break brake lines and Brembo brake discs are also equipped. A spare engine is available separately."
