It's pretty rare for a manufacturer to enter a new market and smash it out of the park on their first try, but that's exactly what BMW did with the S1000RR.
Launched in 2009, the S1000RR took aim at the big boys (Kawasaki ZX-10R, Honda CBR1000RR, Suzuki GSX-R1000 etc.) and it didn’t disappoint. The claimed 190bhp engine was the star of the show, but variable engine modes, ABS, traction control and a quick shifter made it an impressive machine all-round.
