Why it’s MCN’s pick:
MCN recently tested Husqvarna’s 701 Vitpilen and declared it the ‘best road-going single ever,’ which is all very well and good if you have the spare £9899 to buy one! Most of us, however, don’t and that’s where this used KTM 690 Duke comes in.
The 690 Duke was released in 2012 and at the time was the most powerful road-going single, making a healthy 67bhp and blessed with a chassis that allowed you to exploit every single pony on offer. Back then it cost an eye-watering £7000, but at under half that price, this used model is a far more palatable option. Although the owner’s description is a little odd…
“TRON is a lowered (30mm) version of this well cared for motorcycle. Recently serviced and MOT'd with FSH and wearing the following birthday and Christmas pressies – a Puig screen, hand guards, Extenda Fenda, hugger, full KTM luggage, crash bars and a Scott Oiler. In addition the engine was rebuilt 1500 miles ago after the failure of the inlet valve rocker bearing. TRON has now been run in and is ready to start over…”
