Bike of the Day: BMW R1150GS Adventure

Published: 08 July 2018

Anyone up for an adventure? This week MCN is casting an eye over some great used adventure bikes and so we may as well start with the bike that effectively created this class…

The BMW R1150GS Adventure is the bike that has probably seen more trips around the world (including Ewan and Charley's) than any other two-wheeler. It is, quite simply, the benchmark in terms of global adventuring.

MORE BUYER ADVICE

Powered by an air-cooled boxer, the older R1150GS Adventure is bereft of fussy electronics and is therefore considered a touch more rugged and reliable than some of its successors. And when you are in deepest darkest Africa, it is better to be analogue as finding someone to plug into your OBD and diagnose a tricky electrical fault isn’t the easiest of tasks…

For world exploring, weekend touring or just hacking through traffic, the GS Adventure is a brilliant, if a little pricey, machine.

Seller says

“Having covered 42,000 miles, this 2005 R1150GS Adventure is very clean and comes with luggage, crash bars, spot lights, cylinder head guards, fender extenders and lots, lots more.”
