The Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin began life in 2016 and resurrected one of the most legendary names in adventure off-road motorcycling.
Sporting a 998cc, 94bhp parallel-twin motor, the original litre Africa Twin inspired confidence on the dirt where most of its larger, 1200+cc competition felt intimidating. It’s engine configuration also made it low and narrow, meaning it was physically less of a beast to manhandle across trails.
As well as tackling the rough-stuff, the first iteration also made for a serious globe-trotting workhorse, with enough power to munch through miles, without guzzling through its 18.8-litre fuel tank.
On the gas, the power delivery is linear (and arguably fails to excite) and remains unintimidating, regardless of how much you wind on your right wrist. It’s also very predictable, thanks to sublime fuelling and the inclusion of three-stage traction control.
You can now bag plenty of used early bikes on the used market, each available in a different level of trim, thanks to a Honda accessory rage including luggage, crash protection, heated grips, a taller screen, fog lights, a 12v socket and even a centrestand.
What's more, Honda also produced a complete range of clothing to coincide with the release, which included an Arai helmet, Spidi jacket, trousers and gloves plus Alpinestars boots.
